BEIJING — China's capital city is planning ventilation corridors to tackle the country's air pollution. Densely populated cities tend to generate more energy and waste heat. This results in a much warmer urban environment than in surrounding rural areas, according to National Geographic. Xinhua reports that Beijing saw its worst smog spell from November to December of 2015, blocking views across the city and prompting authorities to issue a red alert warning. Measures to curb pollution have led to air quality improving only marginally, with 186 days of 'up to par' air quality in 2015, up 14 days from 172 in 2014, Xinhua reported, citing data from the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection. To reduce smog, the capital is planning to build ventilation corridors. These are designed t...

To reduce smog, the capital is planning to build ventilation corridors. These are designed to relieve a city's heat and pollution by improving urban wind flow. The corridors will be created by connecting parks, rivers, lakes, highways and small building blocks. Five primary corridors — over 500 meters wide — will run from the northern suburbs to the south. Secondary corridors, measuring more than 80 meters, are also planned. The corridors will reportedly allow northern winds to blow through Beijing during severe winter smog spells. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Walking through the site, U-S President Bill Clinton marvelled at the contrast with China's modern-day transformation. He sounded upbeat and optimistic after yesterday's press conference in which he pressed for greater civil liberties. UPSOUND: (English) Q. How optimistic are you that there is going to be political change in China? A.The last 25 years it has been changing quite a lot. I think, after yesterday I feel much better. I thought it was good." SUPER CAPTION: U-S President Bill Clinton The spectacular walled enclave was the residence for twenty-four emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties. The emperors, like Chinese authorities today, were extremely security conscious. The courtyards were built with nine stories of brickwork underground so assassins could not tunnel underneath the city. The "city" contains 9-thousand rooms and displays historic relics from all over China. After touring the great city, the presidential party then set out to visit the Great Wall. Clinton arrived last Thursday to China for a nine-day visit. With the number of Chinese billionaires increasing rapidly, the red ideals of the past may have been discarded forever. "You can never have enough money. He represents a new generation of pioneering red capitalists: immodest, accustomed to success and able to spend more money in one luxury evening in Shanghai or Beijing than others can earn in a year. Others, like the real estate developer Wang Dafu, were born into poverty, but are fast becoming the embodiment of the Chinese dream. I’ve got the Janes if you’ve got the Hooch As far as nightlife goes, Beijing can party with the best of the big international metropoles. The inspiration for the bar’s décor and general ambience is a unique mix of Melbourne warmth (Pang hails from Australia) and prohibition era cool. It’s a departure from the flashy on the outside, little substance on the inside style of many other Beijing bars. The focus is simple – good drinks, great service and an upbeat, comfortable vibe – and the crowd is special – sophisticated, tasteful and one that is ex-pat friendly without being an ex-pat bar. Not to mention, the atmosphere lends itself well to warm rendezvous and the downstairs is non-smoking, which is always a welcomed change of pace in Beijing. "중국국제항공, 베이징-평양 노선 다음달 5일 운항 재개" Air China will reportedly resume flights between Beijing and Pyongyang next month, despite earlier reports that the route had been suspended. With more on this and other news in East Asia...we turn to Ro Aram... Aram... a couple of weeks ago we reported that the route had been quashed,... possibly as a kind of punishment for North Korea's nuclear and missile tests. Now it turns out flights will resume... what's the deal? Well Mark... Japan's Kyodo News reported on Monday that Air China will resume Beijing-Pyongyang flights starting from next Friday,... May 5th. Earlier this month, the Chinese airliner was said to have suspended its flights between the two cities indefinitely. The announcement was made by China's state-run CCTV and came shortly after Beijing's Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned of possible conflict on the Korean peninsula. However, Air China later clarified it was only cutting back regular services due to reduced demand and that it was not halting the service all together. This latest report by Kyodo, however, suggests that the airliner will be getting back to its routine service between Beijing and Pyongyang, but this time with a different schedule. The route opened in 2008 and recently operated flights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. From May 5th, Kyodo reports that the flight schedule will change to every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. We are still awaiting details on what prompted the sudden U-turn.
